Understanding Two-Part Resin Pointing Systems
Two-part resin pointing systems consist of two separate components that, when combined, create a chemical reaction resulting in a strong, flexible, and durable bond. In the context of paving jointing, these two components typically include:
1. Resin binder: The primary component that provides adhesion and strength to the joint. It’s designed to withstand various environmental factors, including temperature fluctuations.
2. Hardener: This component initiates the curing process when mixed with the resin binder. It ensures rapid setting and hardening of the jointing material, so that you can get your patio finished faster.
3. Very High-Quality Sand: This is where your own personal preference comes into play. We offer 3 different sand colours for you to choose from: Buff (Sand), Grey and Black. The colour of the lid on the bucket indicates the colour of the sand inside. At Joint-It, we only source the best quality sand on the market which is colour-matched to ensure consistency and reliability.
Our Joint-It Experts Top Tips for Resin Pointing!
- Joint-It Dynamic can be used on both permeable and non-permeable bases.
- Joint-It Dynamic is not suitable for V joints.
- Joints must be a minimum of 5mm wide and 20mm deep to ensure the product is secure.
- Before using Joint-It Dynamic, paving should be pre-sealed to avoid any natural impurities being drawn out of the stone by the jointing process. Pre sealing should be undertaken for Porcelain, Limestone, Slate, Black Granite, Flamed Granite, Honed Granite and any porous stone. Flamed, Honed or Egyptian stone must be sealed both sides prior to applying Joint-It Dynamic or any other jointing material. We recommend applying two coats of Joint-It Premium Seal (or similar) to your paving. Ensure second coat is applied before first coat is fully dried into the stone.
- While this product is low maintenance, all outdoor surfaces require some maintenance when exposed to changing weather conditions and foot/vehicle traffic, particularly in shaded areas or after the winter. Regardless of the jointing material or paving type, we recommend a quick application of Joint-It So Clean or Joint-It Algae Remover every three to four months to keep your patio looking new and refreshed all year round.
- Dog and cat urine have an acidic pH that can cause serious damage to slabs and joints, especially if not cleaned right away, leading to both aesthetic and financial damages. Urine can cause corrosion, so having your slabs sealed can prevent this from happening. If you have pets who frequently use your paving or patio, it is good practice to wash it every few days to prevent long-term damage to the joints and slabs.

Step-by-Step Application Guide
Soak the Surface with Clean Water
- Water prevents the resin binding agent from settling unevenly on the surface, avoiding colour enhancement or framing around the edges of flags/slabs/paving. It ensures a consistent, even distribution of the resin.
- Keep the surface thoroughly soaked before and during the application process to prevent the resin from sticking. Do not allow the paving to dry as you work with the product. If you’re unsure, it’s better to add more water.
- Before using Joint-It Dynamic, flags/slabs/paving should be pre-sealed to avoid any natural impurities being drawn out of the stone by the jointing process.
Mix & Apply Joint-It Dynamic
- When you are ready to begin, add the contents of the bottles, Part A and Part B, to the sand inside the bucket. Mix thoroughly with a paddle mixer for 3 minutes.
- Add 2 litres of clean water to the bucket. You can use the 1 litre bottles provided to measure this water. This also helps to ensure that all contents of the bottles have been emptied.
- Mix the contents of the bucket with the paddle mixer again for a further 3 minutes.
- Make sure the flags/slabs/paving are thoroughly soaked with water. Keep the flags/slabs/paving soaked with water as you work. Do not allow it to dry out during the application. Tip the contents of the bucket on to your wet flags/slabs/paving.
- Using a brush or squeegee, immediately apply the Joint-It Dynamic mixture into the joints. More water can be added to the mixture to increase flowability if required.
- Ensure flags/slabs/paving is still completely saturated and that all joints are filled completely to the top.
Filling Joints & Finishing
- Wait 15-30 minutes in temperatures over 15º (or 10-15 minutes in high temperatures).
- Using a soft brush at a 45 degree angle to the joints, thoroughly sweep off all excess product from the top of the flags/slabs/paving. Ensure all excess sand grains have been removed from the top of the flags/slabs/paving, taking care to brush it out of the natural indents.
- At this point, check again that all joints are filled completely to the top.
- Use a finishing tool to compact the product into the joints, followed by a soft brush to clean off any excess product. Using a finishing tool is not necessary but does give the product more strength in the joints when compacted.
GUIDELINES FOR USE
IMPORTANT USAGE INFORMATION
- Before applying Joint-It Dynamic, we strongly recommend pre-sealing your paving to avoid any natural impurities being drawn out of the stone by the jointing process. Pre sealing should be undertaken for Porcelain, Limestone, Slate, Black Granite, Flamed Granite, Honed Granite and any porous stone.
- Always test in a small discreet area first.
- The single most important thing to remember when using Joint-It Dynamic is that you must keep the flags/slabs/paving soaked with clean water before and during application of the product.
- A two-person application is recommended, but not necessary. If you are working by yourself, work on small areas and keep wetting the flags/slabs/paving as you joint your paved area. Ideally, ask someone else to keep wetting the flags/slabs/paving for you as you work.
- Do not use on joints narrower than 5mm wide.
- It’s essential to ensure there is no movement on the flags/slabs/paving prior to application of Joint-It Dynamic. All flags/slabs/paving must be fully secure with absolutely no movement in them before applying the product. Joint-It Dynamic will not fix moving flags/slabs/paving. The product is for aesthetic, drainage and weed-resistance purposes only.
- Joint-It Dynamic can be used on a permeable or non-permeable base. If you are using a slurry primer, it does not matter if it goes into the joints.
- Joint-It recommends sweeping the Joint-It Dynamic product diagonally across the joints, to prevent the product from being removed from the joints.
- Before working with the product, put on the recommended PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Use safety eye protection glasses/goggles and protective gloves. Always observe valid and current legal regulations on safety and health protection in your locality.
- Always adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions. Since Joint-It cannot foresee every possible application or material the product may be used with, it is the user’s responsibility to ensure the product’s suitability for their specific use. If you are unsure, it’s always good practice to try any product you’re using in a very small, discreet area first to make sure you’re happy before you continue.
- If there is additional work being conducted around the patio area (e.g. flower beds being dug, mulching, brickwork, rendering, etc.), it is good practice to complete that work before application of Joint-It Dynamic.
AFTER APPLYING JOINT-IT DYNAMIC
- The jointing should not be cleaned by use of high-pressure washers until cured for at least 30 days after application.
BASE
- Successful installation of Joint-It Dynamic requires ample clean water and either a permeable or non-permeable base.
JOINTS REQUIRED
- Recommended for joints a minimum of 5mm wide and 20mm deep.
- Joint-It Dynamic is not suitable for V joints.
- There is no restriction on the maximum size of the joints but take note that larger joints will reduce coverage per bucket of product.
COVERAGE
- Coverage will vary depending on the joint size, flag/slab/paving size, surface and application. Generally, one 22kg bucket of Joint-It Dynamic will cover approximately 10 – 15 sq. metres on a mixed patio pack (900mm x 600mm, 600mm x 600mm, 600mm x 300m, 300mm x 300mm). Please refer to the Joint-It product calculator for an estimation of how much product you will require.
WEATHER
- If the temperature is forecast to drop near freezing or below freezing within 12 hours of application, Joint-It Dynamic should not be used, because the water will freeze as it hits the ground, making it too difficult to sweep the product into the joints.
- Dry and hot conditions may increase the likelihood of resins from the sand depositing on the surface of the paving. This can lead to some colour enhancement or framing along the surface edges of the flags or stones. If the temperature is above 30º, we recommend that you wait until it is cooler in the evening or early morning before applying Joint-It Dynamic, because water will evaporate too quickly to allow you to brush the product into the joints. In dry or very hot conditions, ensure that the surface remains saturated and work in small areas at a time.
- Product application can be done successfully in light rain. However, in heavy rain, it may be necessary to cover the installation to prevent the product from washing out of the joints within the first few hours after application, before it has had time to cure.
- Joint-It Dynamic can be applied in most weather conditions. Since it is applied wet, Joint-It recommends that application temperatures remain above 5°. Freezing temperatures during installation will likely cause ice to form which will inhibit the proper settlement of product into the joints.
- Freezing temperatures through the curing process will not affect the integrity of the final application. It will, however, drastically increase the curing time since all reactions will essentially stop until the ice can thaw and migrate away from the Joint-It Dynamic product, which in turn allows the resin coating to react with the air.
- If temperatures are at risk of dropping below freezing during installation, a dry installation can be used. This method increases the likelihood of colour enhancement substantially or resin deposits on the surface of the flags/slabs/paving. This may be minimised by pre-sealing the individual flags/slabs/paving, regardless of type, both on top, and each side. Pre-sealing is recommended if you are using any two part resin paving jointing system, not just Joint-It Dynamic.
STORAGE
- Once PART A and PART B have been mixed into the sand, the curing process has started and leftover product cannot be stored and reused.
- Unopened, Joint-It Dynamic should keep for a minimum of 12 months when stored in a cool dry place.
MAINTENANCE
- While the Joint-It Dynamic product is low maintenance, all outdoor surfaces require some maintenance when exposed to changing weather conditions and foot/vehicle traffic, particularly in shaded areas or after the winter.
If you have pets who frequent your paving or patio, it is good practice to wash it every few days to prevent long-term damage to the joints and slabs.

FAQs: Joint-It Dynamic
GENERAL INFO
Joint-It Dynamic is a two-part resin paving jointing system to grout natural stone, concrete and porcelain paving. It uses resins and hardeners to create an extremely strong joint between your paving slabs.
Joint-It Dynamic comes in 3 colours – Buff, Grey and Black. The colour of the lid on a bucket of Joint-It Dynamic indicates the colour of the product inside.
Joint-It Dynamic is used to fill the joints between natural stone, concrete and porcelain paving slabs.
In cases where insufficient water has been used, Joint-It Dynamic may leave a sticky residue that accentuates any natural discolouration in the stone.
This sticky residue should weather-off within a few weeks. Sometimes this can take longer depending on the type of stone used, and whether there was enough water used during the application. There is no need to be concerned, as this will fade and the stone will return to its original colour.
To avoid any potential problems when using Joint-It Dynamic, please carefully read the instructions before use.
Different stone types can have slightly varied reactions. Some stone is more porous than others. Please don’t be alarmed if there is any slight colour enhancement on your slabs as this will disappear after a few weeks. If you still have concerns, please contact us and we will reassure you.
We recommend that you avoid using a power-washer on your paving for a minimum of 30 days after applying Joint-It Dynamic.
Visit our store locator, enter your postcode, and select a desired radius from where you live. You may need to increase the radius depending on where you live.
If there is no stockist local to you, there is a large number of stockists who sell Joint-It Dynamic online, just search the product in your search engine and you will discover lots of online retailers.
Alternatively, contact us at sales@jointit.com and we would be more than happy to help you.
Yes, absolutely! All of our stockists have a supply of colour samples that you can take home with you, free of charge. Just ask!
Yes absolutely, but please email us first so that we can discuss your job with you to ensure that you get the best results.
Yes, absolutely. As long as the joints are a minimum of 5mm wide and 20mm deep.
We do recommend that you keep all pets and young children away from application area, as the product may be harmful if ingested. 24 hours after application we could recommend opening the area for access again.
BEFORE USE
We strongly recommend that you watch our application video before you start the foundations for your paving.
The single most important thing to remember when using Joint-It Dynamic is that you must keep the paving soaked with clean water as you work.
If you are working by yourself, work on small areas and keep wetting the paving as you joint your paved area. Ideally, ask someone else to keep wetting the paving for you as you work.
Remember, you must keep the paving saturated as you brush in the product.
Adding lots of water does not weaken Joint-It Dynamic because the product is water permeable. It is not possible to add too much water.
Not using enough water on the paving, especially in warm weather, dries out the product too quickly before it has been brushed into the joints.
Again, please take note to keep the paving wet at all times when brushing Joint-It Dynamic into joints.
Yes, Joint-It Dynamic can be used on a solid base.
We recommend using Joint-It Premium Seal prior to laying paving where you are using Slate, Black/Blue Limestone & Honed Black Granite. These highly porous stones would benefits from being pre-sealed to prevent drawing any of the colour of Joint-It Dynamic into the stone.
If insufficient water has been used, the slabs may draw the product into the stone causing a temporary colour enhancement. This colour enhancement can take up to 12-16 weeks to fade.
While it is important to soak the paving before applying Joint-It Dynamic, it is equally important to keep it wet, particularly where you are working on a large area (one area might dry out by the time you are brushing the product in), or in warmer weather conditions.
Joints must be at least 5mm wide and 20mm deep to apply Joint-It Dynamic. This is a minimum requirement, but there is no maximum size. The joints can be as big or wide as you like, it will not affect the product performance as long as the minimum measurements have been reached.
All slabs must be fully secure with absolutely no movement in them before applying Joint-It Dynamic.
To fix rocking or moving patio slabs before applying Joint-It Simple:
1. Remove the paving stone/slab from the patio.
2. Clean or brush away any loose sand and cement underneath.
3. Apply the required amount of Joint-It Slurry Primer to the base and the underside of the slab and reapply the paving slab in place.
HOW TO USE
When using Joint-It Dynamic, joints must be a minimum width of 5mm and a depth of 20mm for the joint to have stability when it is set.
Joint-It Dynamic is not suitable for beveled slabs or V joints.
Joint-It Dynamic is suitable for use with all natural stone and concrete paving slabs including:
- Porcelain
- Sandstone
- Limestone
- Slate
- Concrete Slabs / Paving
- Yorkstone
- Granite
- Louisiana Stone
- Oklahoma Stone
- Quartz
Because Porcelain is a smoother stone it doesn’t absorb water to the same degree as other natural stone products. To get the best results when using Joint-It Dynamic with Porcelain, we recommend that you keep both the top of the stone paving and the Joint-It Dynamic product saturated with clean water to make Joint-It Dynamic flow into the Porcelain joints more easily.
Slate and Granite paving slabs, even those from the same batch, may absorb water at different rates. When using Joint-It Dynamic with either granite or slate, pause briefly after soaking your paving, before opening the bucket of Joint-It Dynamic, to allow time for the stone to absorb the water. You may need to repeat the soaking process. If you notice small dots on your paving slabs, this indicates that part of the slab was of a harder density, and the residue should weather-off over a 3-6 month period. These stones should also be pre-sealed with Joint-It Premium Seal before applying Joint-It Dynamic.
You need 2 brushes and a paddle mixer to apply Joint-It Dynamic.
A hard bristle brush is used on the wet paving, to brush the product into the joints, and a soft bristle brush is used to finish the job.
Professional pavers often recommend you use a squeegee on very smooth stone such as granite, because the squeegee makes it easier to joint a smooth stone patio.
Make sure that brushes are clean before you start, and we recommend that you wash off any particles of the product when you have finished to stop it hardening on your brushes.
The paving should not be walked on for approximately 24 hours after application in temperatures of around 20° Celsius. We recommend that you gently test the joints to make sure they have set before walking on the paving. Local weather conditions will determine how quickly Joint-It Dynamic takes to fully harden/set.
Ensure you apply Joint-It Dynamic patio jointing compound with at least 5mm width and 20mm depth. Take care to ensure the product is compacted well into the joints. If you have any further questions about this, please contact technicalsupport@jointit.com
WHEN NOT TO USE
If the temperature is forecast to drop near freezing or below freezing within 12 hours of application, Joint-It Dynamic should not be used, because the water will freeze as it hits the ground making it too difficult to sweep the product into the joints.
If the temperature is above 30°, we recommend that you wait until it is cooler in the evening or early morning before applying Joint-It Dynamic because water will evaporate too quickly to allow you to brush the product into the joints.
To use Joint-It Dynamic, joints must be a minimum of 5mm wide and 20mm deep. If joints are smaller than 3mm wide, we would highly recommend using our other product Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout if you are laying porcelain.
Joint-It Dynamic is not suitable for V joints or beveled slabs. As you can see from the illustration below, there is not enough surface area at the bottom of the V joint to hold Joint-It Simple in place.
STORAGE
Unopened, Joint-It Dynamic should keep for a minimum of 12 months when stored in a cool dry place.
No, once PART A and PART B have been mixed into the sand, the curing process has started and leftover product cannot be stored reused.
