FAQ’S: Joint-It Tile Spacers & Levelling Caps
GENERAL INFO
Joint-It Tile Spacers are currently available in 3mm and 5mm sizes.
Tile spacers are used to maintain even spacing between tiles during installation. They are important because they ensure consistent grout lines, which contribute to a professional and aesthetically pleasing finish.
Joint-It Tile Spacers should be removed once the mortar has set but before it fully cures. This is usually after about 24 hours but can vary depending on the mortar used and environmental conditions.
Joint-It Levelling caps are used to ensure that tiles are level and even with each other. They work with Joint-It Tile Spacers, where the spacer is placed under the exposed edges of each tile and the cap is twisted onto the spacer to keep the tiles level.
Yes, Joint-It Levelling Caps can be used multiple times, provided they are not damaged during the removal process.
While not strictly necessary for all tile installations, Joint-It Levelling Caps help to prevent lippage (uneven tile edges) and ensure a professional finish.
BEFORE USE
Select spacers that match the desired width of your joints. Common sizes for outdoor patios are 3mm or 5mm, depending on the tile size and personal preference. Joint-It Tile Spacers are available in both 3mm and 5mm sizes.
HOW TO USE
Joint-It Tile Spacers and Levelling Caps are sold separately, but used in conjunction with each other. The Levelling Caps can be reused.
- Position the threaded spacers under the exposed edges of each tile, ensuring that they make direct contact with the tile, without any adhesive mortar in between. Spacer placement will differ according to the tile’s size.
- Secure the adjacent tile firmly next to the spacers already in place.
- You can either slide the tile back and forth, or use a rubber mallet to firmly embed the tile into the adhesive or mortar, allowing any trapped air underneath to escape.
- Twist the Joint-It Levelling Cap onto the spacers and firmly adjust it to create an even surface along the joint.
- Once the mortar has fully set, gently release the caps (which can be reused) and snap off the tile spacers in the direction of the joint.
